Roam Expandable® is a structured pet carrier backpack built from water repellent 300D Oxford fabric, with a rod along the top and frames on both sides to hold its shape, plus a firm bottom pad for support. Mesh windows on all four sides provide airflow, and four zip entrances, both sides, the front, and the back, allow loading from multiple directions. One side expands into an extra floor section for more room, and the carrier folds flat for storage when not in use.
Roam Expandable® opens from both sides, the front, and the back, so you can pick whichever entrance is easiest in the moment, then settle your pet onto mesh windows that keep air moving on every side.

Mesh panels on all four sides keep air moving and let your pet see out, rather than riding in a closed box.
Zip entrances on both sides, the front, and the back mean you can load your pet from whichever opening is easiest in the moment.
One side unzips into an extended floor section, giving your pet more room to stretch out on longer trips.
A roller blind pulls down over a mesh window to block direct sun without closing off airflow entirely.
Before strapping a pet carrier to your back, it’s fair to ask if it holds its shape, whether your pet can actually see and breathe in there, if it’s safe from wandering off mid-trip, and whether it’ll actually fit them. Here’s what to know.
Let your pet explore the carrier at home with the door open and the mat inside before the first real trip, a little familiarity goes a long way toward a calmer ride.

Please Read. Our 1yr,13lb Tabby 100% DEMONSTRATED & APPRECIATED the 2hrs I spent of contemplation. This is important to you as well or you would not be reading now. Let me save you the time and effort of comparing and scrolling. Some are cuter some are cheaper but none of that matters this one falls in the middle of all that and lands on perfect! Of the trillion different choices provided here, I assure you I made the best purchase possible for our 13 lb, stout, tall lil fella. This is our first usage so I cannot speak to longevity, but it is very well made, and the quality can be seen and felt right away. I can assure you it's well worth the price, others might assume on site you spent over $100. Seriously, add to cart immediately and get exactly what you're looking for! P.S. once we got him out of the box, we set it up so he could play and get used to it before travel and I think it's an important factor worth mentioning that this amazing product was designed in such a way that cats are most likely to consider it a fun & intriguing new item to smell & explore! Oh, almost forgot to mention how comfortable it is for the human! Really easy on & off, easy to adjust! Once secured and aligned properly, can barely feel the weight and MOST IMPORTANTLY NO swaying or movement for him and I could tell immediately he felt secure and with that I knew instantly we were safe and go to go! ★★★★★

I made this purchase for my cat to make him more comfortable for when I relocated to another state. I left it open after I got it so he could get used to it. I then took him to a park and walked around with him in it, and he seemed to really like the fact that he was protected all the while being able to move freely in it and look around. He absolutely loves it. I leave it open for him to go in and out of. Material is strong, shoulder straps are very comfortable. All in all, I would say pet approved. He even plays and naps in. Great purchase for sure.
I had my reservations about this cat backpack. Other products that I tried seemed bigger, such as the space bubble one...However, it was difficult to get cat in. Why this product is amazing is thw versatility. You can get your cat in not just from only the sides. You can pick them up and easily put them from the top/middle opening. I just experienced the los angeles fires. Luckily im one the few that ended up being safe. It still was one ordeal to have to evacuate. In the heat of the moment, andrenaline pumping, i grab this backpack carrier, rip it open from the wrappings. It was so intuitive to use. I put my cat in, then out i went with 2 other backpacks/ purse.
I'm so grateful for the quality/reliability. Now, im in love with this more because the back side , opens up and essentially becomes a 'popup-tunnel-tent'. Which also can be unzipped to become a entry/exit. It has two pieces that act as the floor.
Worried about the quality of the stitching, zippers, straps? Good news! The stitch is incrediby tight, zipper is thick vs the tiny tracks. The straps are adjustable and well padded. I was also though concerned about the pain that may come with carrying it. I haven't hiked with her yet. So gotta put a pin in it. Though will update review late. I also have to say carrying it front facing was comfortable.
Easy to fold back into a backpack. Gently move your cat to the front. Push in the black mesh and zip up.
I like the side pocket to store cat supplies.
Small improvements:
-have an attachment inside so i may secure cat with leash to it.
Nonetheless, this product is like my title means. Versatile, effortless, roomy
Update: hiking can be painful but not a loss to me. I feel hiking with anything heavy is going to hurt. I found what helps is adjusting the straps so that the backpack is higher by mid-back to shoulder blades. Then switch to the front.

Well made, nice construction, great quality, good zippers, well designed, works well. Good compartization. My cat loves it. Converts easily from backpack to cat container.
This was perfect for my 12.6 lb leggy maltipoo. Gave him plenty of space to sit up while I was carrying him on my back. Was a little larger than airline dimensions but did not have a problem because was able to squeeze in the softer sides. Side pockets came in handy. Because this replaced my personal item, I was able to put some of my items in the pockets. It was lightweight but felt sturdy enough...a really good balance.
If you’re thinking about getting a cat backpack to see if your cat enjoys it without sinking a ton of money into it, this is a good one to order! If you are upgrading your current cat backpack situation, this might not be the one for you. The price isn’t crazy, but it’s a bit higher than very similar models on here. I got the pink one so I did expect it to cost a bit more. However, I do not feel like I was ripped off.
It works perfectly for my small cat. She’s about 7.5lbs and wears a small in harnesses and such. She has plenty of room to lay down, sit, stand, and turn around.
I like that it has an optional flap that lets my cat see more or hide. It really is just a flap. At first, o thought that was odd. Now i actually like that detail because even if it’s closed, it allows for more air flow.
I really like the expanding area! My cat enjoys it a lot and it’s great for hanging out at the park or at the courtyard of my fav coffee shop.
Okay, here’s why I can’t give it 5 stars:
The expansion bit simply will not stay in place when it’s folded up and the backpack is on my back. It pops out into the cat’s space and makes it pretty tight in there. There are small straps in the bottom corners, but they really don’t do anything for it. I’m probably going to have to figure out a DIY situation. Also, it gets superrr uncomfortable after about 15-20 minutes. The bottom frame hits my back very uncomfortably. I don’t think that is unique to this brand, though. I feel like I’d need to put quite a bit more money into it to get something more comfortable.
Over all, this is a fine backpack.
My cat loves this. She would sit at the door and meow while I was out on the front porch. No longer now she sits with me in this carrier. She will get right in and no fights like with the plastic enclosed closed carrier. She will even sit in it if she wants to go outside.
We bought this to travel with our Ragdolls. Easy set up (comes and stores flat). This backpack is fairly sturdy when lying down. Like that there are multiple ways to get in and out (sides, front and back) The pop out back is a little flimsy, but still offers some extra room to stretch out when space permits. Has 2 side pockets for storing leashes, collapsible bowls, treats, food. Our kittens love to play and hang out in it. We opted for 1 backpack and one other carrier so we have options. It seems comfortable enough. Their 1st trip using will be in the car to the vet. Plan to fly soon with them, so I will report back if there are any issues.

got it this week & used it twice so far. my cat is a little feral, so i was nervous to use it. she absolutely loves the wind in her fur and how breathable it is. she was originally nervous, so she clawed it pretty hard; it was durable and didn’t not rip, good material for the “mesh” part. she loved laying out and stretching her legs, she also liked the compactness of when i zip the back up for comfort when there was a dog around. straps were comfortable in my end. adjustable with a buckle for back support. i used it for both the front & back of me. pockets are small, but fit what i needed. however, i held my own water bottle. i like that she was able put her scent all over it instantly. there are locking features in the zippers so i dont have to worry about her shimming out of it, however, she was so good & didn’t try to get out. i was also able to put food & water in it with lots of room, so no messes. big plus for that. overall, so far, so good.
now, she keeps going towards & in it to go back outside!
i plan to get another one for my smaller cat.
